It's been a long time...

Inching close to two weeks since I've put anything in here.

With the NCAA Tournament at hand, I'm sure I'll have some updates for the two of you still reading.

Since it's 2:30 a.m. I am going to make this short and say that I am absolutely stunned that UAM put a beating on Delta State the other night. Of course, what goes around comes around. The Boll Weevils crapped the bed something awful, blowing a 17-point second-half lead against Montevallo, allowing the Falcons to win in overtime and advance to the Elite Eight. I'm pretty sure what cursed UAM was the fact Nate Newell led in scoring. Their failure rate is much higher when he's the leading scorer. Billy McDaniel was pretty much perfect, pulling the 20/20. Twenty rebounds in a regional championship game is clutch. Too bad Montevallo was, too.

How mad are the Delta State women right now? The regional they had earned to have at their place got moved to Henderson State because DSU was hosting the men's regional since the guys were No. 1 in the nation and the university couldn't host both tourneys. Well, Delta's women go and lose the regional final to Henderson State by four points on the Lady Reddies' home floor. And all for nothing, since the Statesmen went ahead and squandered their home-court advantage.

What a difference a week makes, eh? Just over a week ago, the euphoria was so great at Delta, Cleveland might've been an almost tolerable place. Now? Deeper in the doldrums than ever.

For those who may have missed it (and that was probably all of you), Washburn's women finally lost. They had won 50 or 51 in a row, which is a Division II record. But now they're losers of one in a row and won't be making the return trip to Hot Springs to defend their title. It's the Sports Illustrated curse, as the Lady Blues' Jennifer Harris was in the magazine's "Faces to Watch".

I don't dislike Washburn, but it sure is nice to see them suffer a nice gut-wrenching loss.
