MALVERN, Ark. — Ah. Nothing like a nice 73 degree day on Dec. 27. I mean, really, am I in freakin' Florida or something.
Obviously I'm not in Florida, I'm sure there's no town that's quite the town Malvern is in Florida.
This is essentially my first trip back to Malvern since sometime this summer. I stopped off at home during the Ouachita Baptist football weekend and came back for a couple days for Thanksgiving. But both of those trips were quick and busy, so I didn't get to take in the full Malvern experience.
Not that I have this trip either, but I did make a Wal-Mart run Friday. And for the first time since like 2003 I saw two people I went to high school with at the same time. I suck at keeping up with people. One guy lived up the road from me all my life and I didn't even know that he has now moved across the street. Funny how things change.
Any way, the whole point of this post was to let everyone know how Christmas at the Caddy Shack went.
It went great. Holidays seem to lose some of that excitement as I get older, but I'm still a big fan of Christmas none-the-less.
I'm a huge fan of all my presents, which is always a good thing. And I've gotten to spend more time with my family this week than I have since probably this time last year.
So it was all good.
Now it's over and it's summer time outside.
Weird.
Of course, I've got to throw in some sports here, so here it is: I FORGOT ABOUT THE NBA ON SUNDAY. Flipping through the DirecTV later Sunday night I realized while stopping on an NFL game that I had completely forgot my beloved NBA and my Christmas tradition of watching the Christmas Day NBA action.
Granted, the tradition has lost a little meaning since the Bulls stopped getting the Christmas Day game a few years back. But I still try to catch a little of the action.
Then again, I wasn't horribly upset by it. ABC and ESPN are doing a surprisingly horrible job of NBA coverage. I long for the days of the NBA on NBC, John Tesh's theme song and my Bulls putting a working on someone.
One thing I did catch Christmas Day Night, though, was the UCA basketball coaches shows on KATV Channel 7.
My biggest gripe about both shows is the decorative border during player interviews and feature stories. There's a bar at the top and bottom of the screen, and although it's slightly transparent it still chops off folks' heads. Please fix it, please!
Other than that, I thought they were pretty well done. People seemed to complain quite a bit about Conque's coach's show, but what are people expecting? It was tons better this year and is just as good as any football coaches show I've seen.
Les Miles at LSU has maybe the worst coaches show I've ever seen, so I think UCA is doing OK with it's efforts.
Nathan Christian needs a little work on his telepromptor reading skills however.
But I thought Jake Hatley did a great job with Coach Seals on the Sugar Bears show. By season's end I figure Nate will have things worked out and both shows will have local Emmy nominations lined up. OK, so maybe not, but I think they'll be among the best DII basketball coaches shows around.
So that was pretty much my Christmas. Now I need to rest up, because tomorrow I'll be another year older. Ugh.
